People’s Choice Credit Union is working with the Adelaide Strikers Big Bash League cricket team to support South Australia’s bushfire-affected communities.
The Strikers’ upcoming Australia Day match against the Hobart Hurricanes will be dedicated to raising funds for the State Government’s SA Bushfire Appeal, with People’s Choice opening the batting with a $50,000 donation.
People’s Choice has also challenged the Strikers to make their innings a rush of boundaries and sixes, with the credit union donating $1,500 for every six recorded by the Strikers during the game, $1,000 for every boundary they hit and $500 for every wicket taken by a Strikers player, with all money going to the SA Bushfire Appeal. Spectators at Adelaide Oval and fans watching on TV are also encouraged to donate during the match.
People’s Choice Chief Executive Officer Steve Laidlaw said the bushfire tragedy had hit Australian communities hard, with a long road ahead expected for recovery.
“The scale of this disaster is beyond imagination – the biggest fire tragedy the world has witnessed – but the personal tragedy brings home the true cost of this disaster,” Mr Laidlaw said.
“People’s Choice will be supporting the newly-formed SA Bushfire Appeal with an initial $50,000 donation and we will be working with our partners, the Adelaide Strikers, to make every big hit count at their inaugural Australia Day Big Bash match,” he said.
People’s Choice has been supporting its members affected by bushfires in a number of ways, including:
- proactively contacting members in affected areas to offer support
- closely monitoring all claims through insurance partner CGU and keeping in touch with members to ensure they are being supported
- offering relief measures for members experiencing hardship through its Bushfire Relief Package, including waiving fees and break costs to help those in need.
People’s Choice is offering support to staff living and working in affected areas through its Employee Assistance Program and continues to offer paid leave for volunteers through Emergency Services Leave.
