People First Bank Branch Updates - FAQs

  • How are you contacting customers about branch closures?

We are making every effort to directly contact our affected customers. This includes emails and letters to regular users of the branch, phone calls to customers that rely on our branches, displaying signage in the branch and publishing information on our website.
  • How do I set up Internet Banking and the App?

Our Internet Banking and Mobile Banking App provide a safe and secure way to carry out your everyday banking anytime, anywhere. Our team members are more than happy to provide all the assistance you need to help set up Internet Banking and our App. If you are not already registered, you can learn more about how to set up by clicking here. You can also drop into a branch or ring our contact centre on 13 11 82 for help getting set up.

At People's Choice, our aim is always to provide you with a great banking experience, and we are always here to listen to our members.

  • What other face-to-face options are available?

In most cases, there are alternative branches located nearby, so customers will continue to be able to bank in person with us if that is their preference. Customers will be able to withdraw cash and make deposits in person fee-free using Bank@Post services at Australia Post outlets. Customers can also withdraw cash fee-free from major bank ATMs, and access free cash-out facilities at supermarkets and participating retailers with purchases.

  • When are the branches closing?

    4 April 2025.

We are committed to supporting our customers to transition to a nearby branch or other ways of banking with us, while minimising the impact of this change.
  • Why are you closing some branches?

Our customers are rapidly embracing digital banking, with branch visits now making up less than 1% of all transactions. We know how important our branches are to the communities they serve, which is why decisions affecting branches are very carefully considered.

However, we have to respond to the changing ways that most of our customers choose to bank with us. This means prioritising the services our customers use most, including reallocating people and resources from areas of lower demand to those experiencing higher demand.

  • Why did you choose to close these branches? Is it because they are not profitable?

Over the years, we have seen a shift in how customers choose to bank with us. Increasingly, customers are choosing card payments, ATMs, Internet Banking and our App for their day-to-day banking, with branch use declining to less than 1% of all transactions.

Less than 0.7% of customers associated with these branches have used a branch monthly in the past year.

While it is challenging to make these decisions, we need to prioritise the services our customers use most, by reallocating people and resources from areas of lower demand to those experiencing higher demand.

  • Will ATMs remain after the branch has closed?

We do not plan to retain ATMs in the locations where branches will close.  Our customers can withdraw cash fee-free from our own and major bank ATMs. We recommend checking for any fees or cash limits before completing transactions. Additionally, supermarkets and participating retailers offer free cash-out with purchases, and Australia Post outlets provide Bank@Post services for fee-free cash and cheque deposits and withdrawals.

  • Will there be any financial penalties for customers who close their accounts with you?

No. We are committed to minimising the impact of this change on our customers and will work closely with our customers to provide the support they need specific to their circumstances.

  • Will you retain local ATMs?

We do not plan to retain ATMs in the locations where branches will close.

Our customers can withdraw cash fee-free from our own and major bank ATMs. We recommend checking for any fees or cash limits before completing transactions. Additionally, supermarkets and participating retailers offer free cash-out with purchases, and Australia Post outlets provide Bank@Post services for fee-free cash and cheque deposits and withdrawals.
