The Strikers’ innings of 10 sixes, 16 fours and a wicket underpinned a donation of $31,500 from People’s Choice – rounded up to a total of $100,000. But the big showing on the night was crowd support for the cause, People’s Choice Chief Executive Officer Steve Laidlaw said.
“We would have preferred the Strikers to win on the night, but the crowd’s support for those affected by these bushfires was astounding,” he said.
“The crowd raised more than $20,000 for the SA Bushfire Appeal on the night, with every dollar going to help those on Kangaroo Island and in the Adelaide Hills as they recover from the devastating fires. However, the scale of this tragedy means these communities will need support far beyond today and tomorrow. We urge everyone to see what they can do to help these communities in the weeks, months and years ahead.
“People’s Choice also wants to thank the Strikers and SACA for focusing on this cause for their Australia Day clash. This has been a positive partnership with people working towards a good cause for the right reasons.”
People’s Choice has been supporting its members affected by bushfires in a number of ways, including:
- Proactively contacting members in affected areas to offer support
- Closely monitoring all claims through insurance partner CGU and keeping in touch with members to ensure they are being supported
- Offering relief measures for members experiencing hardship through its Bushfire Relief Package, including waiving fees and break costs to help those in need
- Matching staff donations to raise more than $33,000 for the Red Cross Disaster Appeal, and another $100,000 donated to the State Government’s SA Bushfire Appeal .
People’s Choice is offering support to staff living and working in affected areas through its Employee Assistance Program and continues to offer paid leave for volunteers through Emergency Services Leave.
